GRADUATE SCHOOL PREPARATION

Are you planning to apply for graduate schools? Are you anxious about the application?

On MAY 22, THURSDAY, GCC is holding the annual conference from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at PC Marshall Room. Theme for the conference this year is GRADUATE SCHOOL PREPARATION insider evaluation!

In the conference, we will first have our speakers to give speech. We will invite UCSD Graduate School’s administration members to talk about the process of graduate school application from their perspectives. You will get the information about criteria in evaluating each student including application essays, exams, undergraduate GPA and expectations for international students versus domestic candidates.

We will also invite UCSD alumni who are already admitted into top graduate schools to talk about their personal experiences in applying for graduate schools.

After that, participates would have further discussion and share their own information about application for graduate schools. You could also approach speakers for questions or comments during or after conference.

GCC 一年一度的conference就要开始了。就在5月22日,星期四,5:00pm到7:00pm,PC Marshall Room。今年的主题是GRADUATE SCHOOL PREPARATION insider evaluation!

首先,我们会邀请UCSD Graduate School的administration部门的成员从他们的角度来为我们讲述申请的过程和他们衡量一个学生的标准,包括申请时的essay,考试成绩,GPA,还有他们相对于国内的学生,对国际生会有怎样的要求。我们还会邀请UCSD的已经被各大高校录取的校友们来给我们讲讲他们的亲身经历,分享他们的经验和建议。然后大家可以互相讨论,分享自己所知道的信息,也可以向speaker们提问题。

希望这次的conference能够为大家提供所需的信息,能够帮助大家顺利的完成申请,进入自己的dream school!我们5月22日,下午5点,在PC Marshall Room不见不散咯~

President (Principal Member)

Ÿ   Oversees the overall activities and logistics for GCC

  • Delegate tasks to the VP’s and Directors
  • Works directly with sponsors, advisors, and speakers to formulate plans for current and future events.
  • Engage with other GCC chapters in California and other states
  • Work with the main headquarters
  • Be the recognizable face of UCSD’s chapter
  • Organizing weekly meetings for officers

VP Internal (Principal Member)

  • Establish a strong community within GCC at UCSD
  • Ensure member involvement and participation with events and opportunities
  • Facilitate communication between the executive board and the general members
  • Educate new members and officers about GCC
  • In charge of transitioning officer positions
  • Main contact for other pre-professional, cultural, and international interest student organizations on campus
  • Director of interns and intern development
  • Emailing GCC members with updates on chapter and upcoming events

Administration (Principal Member)

  • TAP form
  • Room reservations for events, meetings, fundraisers, etc.
  • Organize everyone’s schedule and contact information in an easy-to-access document
  • Organize and maintain Google Docs, Google Calendar, and Gmail
  • Organize member e-mail list
  • Re-registering student org
  • Event planning and logistics (organizing “day of” details and pre-planning)
  • In charge of minutes and organization of the chapter

Marketing

  • Make GCC well known and user-friendly to UCSD’s campus
  • Recruitment and marketing of all events
  • Creative media responsibilities; designing flyers,posters, thank-you cards, etc.
  • Responsible for updating social media including Facebook, WordPress, and campus resources ( Student Flyers, etc)

Initiatives (aka. Event Coordinators)

  • Project planning and logistics (organizing “day of” details and pre-planning)
  • Lead discussion and brainstorm for event ideas
  • Maintain GCC’s momentum through and between events
  • Creative starting point for project and event ideas, as well as other opportunities for GCC members
  • Take the needs of the organization (mainly sponsorships/funds;  more members, more professional events, etc) and transform them into actionable events and projects

Finance

  • Record GCC cash flows for all events and activities
  • Maintain non-profit bank account for club funds
  • Maintain balance sheet for expenses and profits
  • Apply for operating and programming funds from A.S.
  • Sponsorship (alongside VPE, Initiatives)
  • Planning and executing fundraising events

While playing the games, you may enjoy free food and the splendid ocean view. Besides that, you can meet a lot of people and make unique memories at the beach.

I-VOICE meeting presented by Global China Connection will open with a keynote speaker who will describe the goals for the current strategic plan and UC San Diego’s direction for the future especially for INTERNATIONAL Students! 

The speaker will then do a Q&A section to address international students’ questions and concerns. Every participant can ask questions in regard to the school or any other personal concerns of UCSD!

夏天要来啦!又到了清凉美好的甜品和小吃季节♥ 大家是不是已经厌倦了library walk上各种bbq, donuts和cookies呢?

还记得上个quarter飘香的炸酱面 咖喱鱼蛋和好吃的卤肉饭么? GCC在Spring Quarter将继续给大家煮好吃的。

我们会在周一 5月6日 早上十点到下午两点在library walk卖法国甜点Crepe和日本饭团musubi!!

Global China Connection UCSD Chapter is opening up leadership opportunities for the upcoming year!

If you are interested in becoming an officer for the next academic year, it is now the time.

Officer Descriptions:

These descriptions are meant to serve as a guideline for GCC officers.  This guideline is not exhaustive, and each member is expected to contribute to the team to the best of his or her ability. GCC is a learning experience, as well as a chance for members to apply their current skills. All officers are encouraged to keep an open mind and a thirst for knowledge during their occupation of office.

  • Ability to engage with a diverse population

“Career Development in Asia” Mixer

This event facilitates a unique opportunity in which students – both native and international – can aggregate in a single venue where they can connect and meet with professionals that have extensive experience with the region.

A major focus of the event will be a career panel staffed by members of China Focus (a UCSD graduate student organization) to discuss career opportunities for undergrads in China. There will be three points covered:

  • Cultural differences in China
  • Emerging job markets
  • Types of opportunities available for recent graduates

The China Focus Panel will lead up to an open mixer, which will feature members of faculty and study abroad returnees. During the open mixer, we will be dividing up the invitees into various tables according to specific topics, so that attendees will have the opportunity to speak with individuals that have experience in different aspects of countries.
